Sycamores supports MFT, social work, and professional counseling students in their training and development through our Student Internship Program. The program provides valuable and rewarding real-life experiences for interns that will help prepare them for their future careers. The partnership benefits Sycamores too, with interns contributing to the high-quality, community-based mental health services we provide to our consumers and their families.
Benefits of Placement at Sycamores
Sycamores’ Student Interns are trained on assessment, diagnosis, and treatment interventions for a variety of mental health issues (i.e., depression, trauma, anxiety, disruptive behaviors); mandated reporting; risk assessment and safety planning; evidenced-based assessment (EBA) using standardized outcome measures; and Department of Mental Health (DMH) Documentation.
Interns are also exposed to evidence-based practices (EBP) and have access to Relias e-learning courses on various behavioral health topics.
Minimum Requirements for Interns
Students must be enrolled in a fieldwork course and receiving course credit for the duration of the internship.
A minimum nine-to-fifteen-month commitment is required, depending on the training requirements of the student’s university.
Must be available 16-24 hours per week, spread out over two to three designated days.
Transportation and schedule flexibility is required in order to provide Sycamores’ consumers with services during after-school hours (late afternoon through early evening), two to three days per week.
Weekly, two-hour clinical group supervision and one-hour individual supervision is required.
New training cohorts typically begin in January, April/May, and August/September of each academic year.
