Recognizing the connection between health, education, environment, and the economic and social conditions that affect children, youth, and families, Sycamores launched a Family Resource Center in 1992 to support their healthy development and growth.

Located in Palmdale, the Family Resource Center, provides a wide range of support and programs such as mental health services, tutoring, educational classes and a food bank that are universally accessible to the surrounding Antelope Valley community.

Available services include:

Food Bank:

On a weekly basis, families can pick up essential food items and household necessities along with clothing, school supplies and toys.

Sycamores provides free group and individual tutoring to low-income students at-risk of dropping out of school or failing one or more subjects. Alongside that, tutoring is also provided to gifted students who need additional enrichment outside of what their school can provide. Tutoring is provided year-round, allowing students to make up or receive extra credits during the summer months. The Family Resource Center also offers students access to computers to support them in their tutoring and work. To learn more, download our Tutoring Flyer in English or in Spanish. (Flyers will download as pdf files.)

The Mentoring Program pairs successful, community-minded adults with at-risk youth in need of guidance and positive role models.

Youth Leadership Program:

The Youth Leadership Program was created to develop the leadership skills of teens who want to make a difference in their community. This group meets weekly to discuss local needs and develops strategies for addressing those needs. Their ideas are put into practice on weekends and holidays by volunteering at various community events.

Support/Counseling in Independent Living Skills:

In order to provide life-skills support to students as they enter young adulthood, the Family Resource Center provides counseling in navigating public transportation and/or car maintenance, developing a short- and long-term personal budget, credit education and debt management, cooking/food preparation, professional grooming, job search guidance, housekeeping and personal hygiene.
